Monil cattle collar and its benefits

Why top-mounted matters

Monil's collar is top-mounted by design. Sitting on top of the cow's neck gives the solar panel better exposure to sunlight, supports reliable connectivity, and helps the system track animal location and activity effectively.

  • Solar charging with less upkeep

  • Reliable location tracking and boundary accuracy

  • Accurate movement tracking for advanced data insights

  • Durable design that stays protected from impact

Available now in The Midwest

We know that every cattle operation looks a little different. Some producers want to start with a larger rollout, and others want to try virtual fencing with a smaller group first to learn how it works. With Monil, you can start out with as few as six collars and go from there.

Monil collars are available for shipping now, with local support in our first launch states (IA, KS, NE, OK, MO). We are also talking with producers outside those areas as interest grows.

I calculated the cost of putting temporary fencing around all the agroforestry rows of trees, and it far outweighed what the collars were going to cost and also what it enables us to do

There are so many sites where the ideal grazing system has not been able to be used because they're just impossible to fence. Having a virtual fence means you can now graze areas you weren't able to contain before.

My morning routine is to get on the Monil app just to check everything is where it should be. We can monitor what the cows are up to straight from the kitchen table.

The collars have been really good. I’m away working most days, so being able to open the app and see where the cows are and that they’re moving about normally makes day-to-day management much easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every herd is different, but most cattle learn the audio cue within 3-7 days during the training period. Training starts inside a physical fence so cattle can safely learn the relationship between the sound and the grazing boundary.

The collar uses an audio cue first. If the animal continues moving beyond the boundary, a short electrical pulse follows. Over time, cattle typically learn to respond to the sound alone, with very few pulses needed.

Yes. The Monil app lets you see cattle locations, monitor activity, and receive alerts, helping you keep track of what is happening across the herd, even while away.

No. Monil uses existing cellular networks, so there are no towers or base stations to install before getting started. That means less setup and fewer things to manage.

The answer depends on the operation, but many producers are looking to reduce repetitive work like moving fence, checking boundaries, and making frequent pasture moves. For some, that means more time focused on herd health, pasture management, and planning the next move for the operation.

Physical fence still plays an important role around property lines, roads, and other high-risk areas. Virtual fencing adds flexibility inside those boundaries, making it easier to manage grazing areas and reduce internal fence work.
